The included factory letter (copy) states the rifle was shipped on February 22, 1896 with a 30 inch round barrel in .32-40 caliber, takedown configuration, and pistol grip stock. High end finishes were rarely noted in the Marlin factory records. The deluxe stock on this rifle is factory original. Fitted with a German silver blade front sight, an elevation adjustable rear sight, and a folding tang peep sight. The barrel is stamped with the two-line Marlin legend ending with the August patent date ahead of the rear sight and the caliber designation at the breech. "MARLIN SAFETY" is stamped on top of the casehardened receiver. The forearm and pistol grip stock feature factory checkering and hard rubber shotgun buttplate. Few Model 1893s left the factory with special order features. The Model 1883 was a "working man's gun" and Marlin customers were generally not inclined to spend extra money on deluxe features.

Very fine, retaining 85% original blue finish, with thinning to brown on the balance. 80% original nitre blue remains on the loading gate. The frame retains 90% plus vivid original case colors with some repetitive dents and dings visible on the lower forward frame and takedown collar. The takedown collar, hammer, and lever retain 85% original case colors. The wood is also fine with a filled repair at the stock toe, some minor handling marks, and overall crisp checkering. Mechanically excellent.
