Description:

The Remington-Rider pistol was manufactured in 1871-1888 and is one of the few pistol designs to use a tubular magazine. The Rider uses a removable tube magazine somewhat similar to the Spencer but fitted under the barrel similar to the popular Winchester lever action rifles of the period. These small pistols allowed for more than double the capacity of Remington's famous double derringer in roughly the same overall size and are based on designs by Joseph Rider, one of Remington's principle engineers at the time. While most of these pistols are engraved, this example has the higher coverage "deluxe" engraving. The barrel has the one-line Remington address/Rider patent legend. The barrel has wavy line and dot designs engraved on the upper side flats and a chain/dot style design along the side flats. The frame has beautiful scroll engraving with beaded backgrounds covering the entire side flats, gadroon patterns on the flats at the breech, the same design as the side barrel flats on the top flat, a border design with dots along the sides of the hammer well and down the back strap, and a scroll flourish around the screw on the back strap. Provenance: The Greg Lampe Collection

Rating Definition:

Excellent with 99% original nickel plating and niter blue finish and crisp engraving with minimal handling marks. The grips are also excellent and have minimal minor marks. Mechanically excellent. This is an unbeatable example of the classic Remington-Rider magazine pistol.
