One of approximately 9,000 manufactured from 1870 to 1890. It has the standard two-line address and "No2" model marking on the top barrel flat flanked by Maltese crosses. There are flourishes of factory floral scroll engraving on the sides of the frame and the back strap. The matching serial number is marked on the butt and on the bottom of the barrel. There is a "C" marked on the bottom of the frame in front of the trigger. It is fitted with blade and hammer notch sights, and a pair of checkered walnut grips that have the matching serial number in ink inside both panels. An included letter from firearms expert Arnold M. Chernoff states that this derringer was originally acquired by him from the Museum of Connecticut History in Hartford, which at one time housed some of the firearms of the Colt Factory Collection, including this example, which is listed by serial number on an included page of firearms attributed to that collection. Excellent, retains 98% plus of the original nickel finish with some scattered minor dings and crisp engraving. The grips are also excellent with a few scattered light handling marks and crisp checkering. Mechanically excellent.
