The included factory letter lists this rifle in .44-40, with a 25 1/2 inch round barrel, blue finish, and wood stock and as one of five in a shipment to Colt's London Agency on October 4, 1883. The barrel has a nickel silver blade front sight, the two-line address and patent marking ahead of the adjustable sporting rear sight, London proofs on the upper left at the breech, the serial number and a small "P" on the lower tang, the Rampant Colt trademark on the left, and smooth rifle stock and buttstock with crescent buttplate.

Very good plus with 20% original blue finish overall, most noticeable on the forend cap and protected areas of the frame with the balance an attractive mostly dark brown patina, light oxidation and pitting, and general minor scratches and marks. The wood is fine and has moderate handling wear, some flakes at the edges, and scattered dings and scratches. Mechanically excellent. A solid representative example of a desirable Colt Burgess lever action rifle!
