Description:

This classic c. 1740s "Queen Anne" pistol is signed "PICKFATT" ahead of the cock. Charles Pickfatt, son of Humphrey Pickfatt, is listed as free of the London Gunmakers Co. by patrimony in 1719. He was a contractor to the Board of Ordnance in 1727-1756 and to the Hudson Bay Co. in 1737-1756 and retired in 1757. The pistol has an unmarked, smoothbore, multi-stage, cannon style barrel. There are London proofmarks and a maker's mark on the bottom of the pistol under the trigger guard finial. The scroll pattern side plate, wrist escutcheon, and classic grotesque mask pommel cap are silver. The escutcheon is engraved with a hedgehog and torse. The stock has shaped drop flats and a raised relief carved trefoil design at the upper tang.

Rating Definition:

Very good with attractive aged patina on the silver furniture, mostly mottled brown patina on the iron, mild pitting, and general mild overall wear mostly from age. The grip is also very good and has a crack along the toe, some minor flakes, and attractive carving and grain. Mechanically fine.
