Description:

Known as the "type 5" conversion, this pistol is one of 10,000 revolvers manufactured or converted for 38 metallic cartridges between 1873 and 1880. 6,500 were made from Colt Police/Pocket Navy Model revolver parts with the remaining originally manufactured as cartridge guns. This one has "two patent July 1871/1872" frame markings and features, including matching visible numbers. There are British proofs visible on the barrel and cylinder. Provenance: The George S. Lewis Jr. Collection

Rating Definition:

Very fine, retains 70% plus of the original blue finish, 80% of the vibrant original case colors, and strong traces of the original silver with the balance having thinned to mostly a smooth grey patina or attractively aged brass. The grip is also very fine with some scattered minor dings. Mechanically excellent.
