Description:

This late production 1860 Army revolver was manufactured in 1870 and has the standard markings and features, including matching serial numbers (wedge blank). These revolvers remained in widespread use in the 1870s, including in the American West where a trustworthy sidearm was necessary due to ongoing conflicts with various Native American groups as well as bandits and gangs of outlaws on the prowl. The butt of the grip and the back strap are inscribed with the name Riley McGaughran and "4-1936." A record setting former college athlete by that name nicknamed the "Pale Ghost" lost his leg after a motorcycle accident in September 1936 in Memphis, Tennessee.

Rating Definition:

Fine with 70% of the vibrant original case colors remaining on the frame, patches of original blue finish in the protected areas, aged patina on the brass, and smooth gray and brown patina on the balance. The grip is also fine and has most of the original varnish, minor lower edge wear, tiny chips at the toe, and some dings and scratches. Mechanically excellent.
