Receiver manufactured in 1916, with a Winchester factory oval proof on the receiver ring. The right side of the receiver is inscribed "WILLARD PRIZE/HIGH SCORE/RIFLE SHOOTING/RIDGEWOOD HIGH SCHOOL/1915-16/WON BY CLARKE WINTERS". The serial number is marked on the lower tang. The No. 3 weight barrel has the two-line address on the upper flat and the caliber marking on the upper left at the breech. It is fitted with a spirit level globe front sight, elevation adjustable buckhorn rear sight, and a tang mounted mid-range peep sight. It is mounted with a very finely figured, checkered Schnabel tip forearm with palm rest mounting point and ebony insert at the tip, and a checkered pistol grip stock with hard rubber grip cap, cheek piece, and a period modified refinished semi-crescent buttplate with assembly number 4099, which matches the buttstock.

Fine, retains 50% of the faded blue finish with the balance having thinned to either a smooth grey or smooth brown patina and a few scattered patches of light surface pitting. The wood is also fine with some scattered minor handling marks, a spliced repair on the right rear upper edge of the forearm, and mostly crisp checkering. Mechanically excellent.
