Description:

Manufactured in 1895, the second year of production, with the desirable "First Model" receiver featuring the "10 o'clock" screw by the loading gate. Many of these First Models saw hard use in the untamed American West, and remain a desirable collectible in almost any condition. The two-line Winchester address and caliber marking are on the top barrel flat. The upper tang is marked with the three-line model, trademark, and patent information, and the serial number is on the bottom of the receiver. It is fitted with a German silver blade front sight and elevation adjustable semi-buckhorn rear sight. It's mounted with a smooth forearm and straight grip stock with a crescent buttplate. The forearm has four small "kill" notches carved into the left upper edge near the receiver and the right side has three.

Rating Definition:

Very good plus, retains 30% of the original blue finish and 60% of the original niter blue on the loading gate with the balance mostly a smooth brown patina and some light pitting at the muzzle. The wood is also very good with the notches noted above and some scattered minor dings and scratches. The magazine tube is loose due to the under barrel dovetail being widened. Mechanically excellent.
