Manufactured in 1882, this is a rare example of James Reid's No. 3 derringer or "all metal revolver". With an estimated total of only 75 manufactured, these revolvers are rarely seen in any condition. The top of the barrel is marked "REID'S DERRINGER". The grip area and rear of the frame are both profusely factory engraved with floral scroll, borders on the top strap, and crosshatched patterns on either side of the front of the frame.

Fine, retains 50% plus of the original nickel finish with the balance having thinned to a mottled grey-brown patina, most noticeably on the barrel and cylinder, and the engraving remaining mostly crisp. The cylinder does not turn, otherwise mechanically fine.
