Less than 1,000 of these small pocket pistols were manufactured in 1861-1862. These were the first Remington firearms designed to fire metallic cartridges. Advertisements listed them as "Elliott's Pocket Revolvers." Many have been lost or destroyed leaving few to fill their places in advanced Remington collections. They are difficult to find in any condition. This example has an early two digit serial number: "65." The frame has the three-line Elliot's patent marking on the left side and the three-line Remington address marking on the right.

Very good, retaining traces of original blue finish in the protected areas, otherwise displaying the smooth brown-gray patina of a well traveled sidearm. The very good grips show similar working gun character with a couple small surface chips. Mechanically excellent. As one of less than 1,000 made, this Remington Zig-Zag derringer serial number 65 is a true survivor of Civil War era Americana.
