These derringers were introduced in 1870 and totaled around 48,000 produced. This derringer has gorgeous factory quality engraving on over half of the metal surfaces consisting mainly of highly detailed scrollwork as well as an ornate zig-zag band around the muzzle. The top of the barrel has a rounded blade front sight and "COLT" in large italic letters and the bottom of the barrel has small British proofs. The matching serial number is marked on the left of the grip frame where it is flanked by "E" factory engraving markings, the bottom of the barrel, and inside the right grip in ink. It has standard features and is fitted with a pair of smooth antique ivory grips. Exceptionally fine, retains 95% plus of the original nickel finish with some scattered light flaking mostly in/around the engraving on the barrel, and the engraving crisp overall. The slightly undersize grips are also very fine with a few short hairline age cracks and an attractively aged tone. Mechanically excellent. The case is fine with some light handling/storage wear.
