Description:

R. Scott Nickell bronze "Thunder Hawk" statue. This wonderful bronze of an Indian chief attributed as Thunder Hawk, who was an ally of Crazy Horse and led the diversion that resulted in the loss of Capt. William Fetterman's 80-man command during the "Fetterman Fight" of 1866, is attired in full Indian dress with war bonnet. He is clutching a Springfield Trapdoor carbine and resting the butt on his thigh. The clothing and accessories of the statue are intricately painted, with white, blue, red, and tan accents on the clothing, with only the skin left in unpainted bronze color. One of many such works by R. Scott Nickell, a Texas A&M alumni and geophysicist who initially crafted western themed bronze statues in his spare time, before becoming an artist full time. Working from historical photographs and models, Nickell typically spends a month researching for each sculpture. Fitted with brass plaque marked "THUNDER HAWK" and Signed "R. Scott Nickell." Includes hardwood base topped with a granite slab. The dimensions are HT: 33 1/2in. X W: 11in. 17in., weight ~40lbs.

Rating Definition:

Excellent overall.
