Claude Chateau of Paris was active in the last quarter of the 17th century and first quarter of the 18th century, and his son Alexander was active c. 1714-44. These pistols each have two smoothbore barrels with sighting flats, copper blade front sights, scroll and mask patterns, and dedicated frizzens and pans for each barrel. The pans and frizzens are designed so that the bottom of the frizzens fits over raised borders around the pans to help keep priming powder in and water out. The are holes in the side of the pans that align with the vents on the barrels. Each pistol has one back action lock signed "CHATEAV/A PARIS." Pulling back at the front of the trigger guards allows the barrels to rotate. The brass furniture has scroll engraving. The stocks have incised and raised relief floral and scroll engraving. Each pistol has one ramrod.

Rating Definition:

Fine with gray and brown patina on the iron, slightly worn engraving, mild pitting, aged patina on the brass, some minor repairs visible in the otherwise fine wood, crisp carving, and mild overall wear. Mechanically fine.
