Description:

The Dreyse revolver is a rare and interesting piece in the evolution of revolving firearms. The cylinder is not completely bored through for loading from the breech and instead has a small hole in the rear face of each chamber and loads from the front with paper cartridges like a traditional cap and ball revolver. Pulling the trigger rotates the cylinder, cocks the bolt, and then releases the needle which extends through the hole puncturing the cartridge and striking an enclosed mercury primer which in turn ignites the powder charge. The revolver features a dovetailed blade front sight, fixed notch rear sight, "F. v. DREYSE SOMMERDA." on the top strap, the serial number on the left side of the frame, "Cal: 0,35" 12 Gran Pulv:" on the right of the frame, light coverage factory scroll engraving, and some silver wire inlays on the bolt housing. The large walnut grip has checkering and a lanyard ring on the butt.

Rating Definition:

Fine with 40% original blue finish, mostly smooth gray patina on the balance, general minor overall wear, and minor oxidation. The grip is also fine and has crisp checkering, light scratches and handling marks, and a few dings. Mechanically functions, but the firing pin/needle is broken.
