Description:

This carbine from c. 1770 has a smoothbore barrel with Tower proofs flanking Robert Wogdon's "RW" maker's mark on the left. The lock is signed "Wogdon" and has a sliding safety mechanism at the center. The furniture is brass and is fairly martial in styling. Robert Wogdon is most famous for his dueling pistols, and long guns from his shop are scarce.

Rating Definition:

Good with gray patina and mild pitting on the lock and barrel, aged patina on the brass furniture, and mild overall wear. The refinished stock is also good has some repairs by the lock and moderate dings and scratches. The safety mechanism is incomplete, and the cock will release from half-cock; otherwise, the lock is functions fine.
