Description:

Manufactured using a right sideplate from Charles Erb and a collection of commercial and military surplus parts, this is a fine representative example of the Browning Machine Gun. While marked as a 1917A1, the assembled weapon is closer to the post-WWI 1919 refinement, replacing the effective but bulky water cooling hardware with a lighter, more maneuverable air cooled system, as well as reinforcing the bottom plate for greater ruggedness in the field. This configuration would be the go-to belt fed rifle caliber weapon for the U.S. military through World War II, Korea, and into Vietnam, serving in various roles on the ground, at sea, and in the air. Folding blade front and ladder rear sights, ventilated heat shield around the barrel, and the military-style nomenclature and Erb "bullet" logo on the outside of the right sideplate. Fitted with a pintle mount and a checkered rear pistol grip. A tripod is also included. T&E mechanism absent.

Rating Definition:

Excellent, with 95% of the arsenal quality matte gray phosphate finish, showing areas of brown patina and light handling marks. Mechanically excellent. NOTE: This weapon is a National Firearms Act (NFA), fully transferable Class 3, which is registered with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, (BATFE) under the provisions of 18 U.S.C. Chapter 44 and 27 CFR part 479.
