Blued Winchester Proof steel barrels with a single bead sight on the matted concave solid rib, chokes marked "WS-1"/"WS-2", and chambers marked 2 3/4 inches with automatic ejectors. The blued action is unadorned aside from the "SKEET" marking on the triggerplate and features a single selective trigger and a tang mounted manual safety switch. Attractively figured, multi-point checkered beavertail forend and pistol grip stock with leather buttplate. The included factory letter confirms the current configuration of chokes, stoke, forend, ejectors, manual safety, and finish when inspection was completed on March 16, 1938. The letter also confirms the later addition of the included extra matching 28 inch 12 gauge barrel set with "MOD"/"MOD" chokes and 2 3/4 inch chambers on May 16, 1955, when the gun was returned for repairs. A copy of a letter from General Curtis LeMay lists this gun by serial number and states that it and another where his personal hunting guns. General Curtis Emerson LeMay served in the United States Army Air Force during the Second World War and after in the United States Air Force. LeMay is famous for the orchestration of the fire bombing of the Japanese home islands in an effort to shorten the war as well as for modernizing the Air Force in the wake of WWII. Later he went on to serve as United States Air Force Chief of Staff under President Kennedy and then ran for Vice President with Independent candidate George Wallace in 1968. Very fine, retaining 75% plus original blue finish with much of the loss on the triggerplate and lower tang, some loss of blue and an area of applied finish at the breech area, light rubbing at the muzzles, a few spots of very minor oxidation, and overall light handling marks. The forend has a small chip at the left front of the forend; otherwise, it is very fine with some light dings and scratches and overall crisp/sharp checkering. The extra barrel set is very fine. The case is good. Mechanically excellent.
