Manufactured using a metric pattern Imbel receiver and other (chiefly Israeli) components, this Springfield Armory SAR-48 is a full function FAL rifle in the pattern of an Israeli squad automatic weapon. Used as a counterpart to the "Romat" FAL variant adopted by Israel in the 1950s, and known as the "Makleon", the "FALO" variant FAL served as the chief squad automatic weapon of the Israeli Defense Force during the Suez Crisis, Six-Day War, War of Attrition, and the Yom Kippur War, eventually being phased out in favor of the Galil and M16 variants. Adjustable post front and tangent peep rear sights, with a long birdcage flash hider and folding bipod on the muzzle, adjustable gas system, multi-layered ventilated metal and grooved wood handguard, smooth plastic pistol grip, and fixed hardwood buttstock with shoulder rest. The receiver has the Imbel marking on the underside and the Springfield markings on the sides, and the trigger housing has Israeli markings on the selector positions, right handed selector switch, and internals configured for full/safe/semi operation.
