Description:

This Model 1906 DWM Luger was manufactured for the Portuguese Navy as part of the second contract of 300 units ordered just after the fall of Manuel II in October 1910. These second contract guns, found in the 351-650 serial range, feature markings on top of the chamber consisting of "R.P." (Republic of Portugal) above a fouled naval anchor, differing from the previous first contract guns in the 1-350 serial number range that have a large Portuguese Royal Navy crown over a single fouled naval anchor made this way prior to the fall of Manuel II. Reference pages 521-523 of Gortz and Sturgess' "Pistole Parabellum Volume II" for information on these Portuguese Navy pistols, with pictures of this exact pistol, serial number 389, featured at the top of page 522. "DWM" logo on the front toggle. Features a grip safety, the safety area without markings, and "CARREGADA" marked extractor. Numbered in the correct commercial manner with no letter suffix. Unnumbered replacement checkered walnut grips and unmarked nickel plated magazine with a walnut base numbered "2829" above a plus sign.

Rating Definition:

Fine, retains 50% arsenal refurbished blue finish with areas thinning to a brown patina on the balance and scattered areas of light pitting. Replacement grips are very good with some general light wear and handling marks. Mechanically excellent.
