SIMILAR EXAMPLE PICTURED AND DESCRIBED IN THE BOOK OF COLT FIREARMS BY WILSON
 LOT 401
Exceptional Colt Officer’s Model Target Double Action
Revolver with Very Scarce Ideal Style Shoulder Stock - Serial no. 344033, 38 Colt Special cal., 6 inch bbl., blue finish, checkered walnut medallion grips. This is an exceptional Colt 2nd Issue Officer’s Model Target D.A. revolver that was manufactured in 1912.
The revolver is complete with an attachable shoulder stock/holster manufactured by either W.P
Thompson or the Ideal Holster Company. A similar example of this stock/holster is illustrated on page 342 of “The Book Of Colt Firearms” by R.L. Wilson. The revolver has the Colt high polish blue finish with fire blue trigger and hammer. The sides of the hammer are polished bright. The revolver
has two-piece walnut checkered grips inlaid with Rampant Colt medallions. The revolver has the distinctive Officer’s Model flat top frame with dove-tail mounted rear sight and block mounted front sight with removable blade. The front sight is adjustable for elevation, and the rear sight is adjustable for windage. The trigger spur
has borderless checkering. Both the back strap and the face of the trigger are checkered. The top of the standard weight barrel is roll-stamped with the two-line Hartford address and “1884”, “1900”, “01” and “05” patent dates. The model designation: “+ OFFICERS MODEL 38+” is roll-stamped along the left side of the barrel. The Rampant Colt trademark on a stylized “C” is roll-stamped on the
left side of the frame behind the rounded, checkered cylinder latch. The Colt “triangle/P” proof mark is stamped on the left side of the frame above the front trigger guard bow and the assembler’s number “3” is stamped above the left rear trigger guard bow. The serial number is stamped on the inside of the frame and crane and penciled on the inside of both grips. All of the visible serial numbers match. The attachable shoulder stock has blued tubular and sheet metal fittings and a black cowhide holster body. “PATENT’S/PENDING is stamped on both sides of the metal mount with no other visible manufacturers markings. The holster is complete with four metal stock attachment plates that fit beneath the revolver grips.
CONDITION: Excellent. The revolver retains 95% plus of the bright original high polish blue finish and shows minimal wear. The limited finish wear is located on the edges of the frame and cylinder. The trigger and hammer retain most of the nitre blue finish. The frame and barrel markings are crisp. The grips are also excellent and have sharp checkering with all of the original finish. The action
functions perfectly. The stock is very fine. The blue finish on the stock hardware is 80% complete. The black leather holster is fine, the leather is smooth with minimal cracks and flex marks, and the stitching on the seams are tight. This is a unique example of a Colt Officer’s Model D.A. revolver with very scarce Ideal Holster Co. attachable shoulder stock/holster. Estimate: 7,500 - 11,000
