Sidelock Double Rifle in Desirable .375 H&H
The well-figured walnut pistol grip stock has a raised cheekpiece, checkered grip and forearm, Anson push button forearm release, and slender rubber butt pad. The underside of the butt has a blank gold oval initial escutcheon and blued sling swivel. A corresponding sling eye is fitted beneath the barrels. The leather bound and brass cornered case has a red leather trade label with gild lettering, bright red lining, two oil bottles, wooden container, takedown cleaning rod, snap caps, and keys. 15 1/4 inch length of pull. Weight 10 lbs. 4 oz.
CONDITION: Very fine as expertly restored. The deep blued finish to the barrels is nearly unblemished except for some pock marks on the swivel stud, as is the casehardened finish to the action and pistol grip cap.
The engraving is of very high quality and is crisp and sharp throughout. The replacement stock has a very appealing figure pattern with sharp checkering and drop points. Mechanically excellent. This rifle does not appear to have been fired since its professional refinishing and restocking. The restored case is very good and has mild exterior scrapes and marks and minor interior contact wear.
Provenance: The Malcolm King Collection.
Estimate: 25,000 - 35,000
