Massive Engraved and Paris Retailer Marked W.W. Greener 8 Bore Dangerous Game Double Rifle

Very Rare Engraved W.W. Greener 8 Bore Double Barrel Toplever Hammer Dangerous Game Rifle Retailed by Guinard of Paris - Serial no. 40123, 8 Bore cal.,
24 inch solid rib bbl., blue/casehardened finish, walnut stock. Manufactured in circa 1892 and retailed by Greener’s Paris agents, A. Guinard & Cie. Guinard were Greener’s
agents in France from 1888 until 1965. The blued barrels are each engraved with a band of stylized foliage at the breech end. The broad matted raised swamped solid rib has a bead front sight, a rear sight of one standing leaf with gold inlaid center
line and two folding leaves each with platinum inlaid center line graduated from “50” to “150” yards, a scroll engraved rib extension, and “A. GUINARD. 8 AVENUE DE L’OPERA. PARIS” signed on top in the breech section. The casehardened treble
wedge fast action has carved percussion fences, a blued toplever, and is marked on the watertable with Greener “Elephant” trademark and “W.W. GREENER’S PATENT.” The
casehardened rebounding back action locks are each signed “A. GUINARD”. The furniture includes a blued trigger guard and pistol grip cap. Border, bouquet and scroll patterns are engraved throughout. The barrels and action are struck with Birmingham black powder proof mark. The barrels are each marked with the Greener “Elephant” trademark, and the right barrel is also marked “W.W. GREENER”. The figured pistol grip stock has a checkered grip and forearm and rubber recoil pad. The forearm has an Anson push button release,
and the underside
of the butt has a
casehardened
sling mount. The
corresponding
blued sling mount
is fitted beneath the
barrels. 14 inch length of
pull. Weight 16 lbs. 13 oz.
CONDITION: Fine as professionally refinished throughout. The barrels retain nearly
all of the blue and have a worn signature and engraving. The action and rebounding locks retain nearly all of the renewed casehardened finish and have clear engraving. The refinished stock has handling marks throughout, slightly deeper marks around comb, a slight chip behind the left lockplate, and generally well-defined checkering. Mechanically excellent.
