The cartridge elevator is marked “38
CAL.” The lower tang has the serial
number. The forend cap, hammer,
frame, lever and buttplate have the
desirable casehardened finish. The
loading gate is nitre blue. The barrel,
magazine, and dust cover are blued. The
deluxe “XX” walnut forearm and highly
desirable straight grip stock are checkered.
The buttstock is fitted with a trapdoor crescent
buttplate. The left side of the lower tang is marked
“1777” and “XX.” The stock inlet also has the assembly number “1777” along with the numbers “38” (likely for the caliber) and “5282.” A four piece cleaning rod is included.
CONDITION: Very fine overall. The barrel, magazine, and dust cover retain 85% original blue finish with thinning to brown on the balance. The receiver retains 75% original case colors. 30% of original nitre blue remain on the loading gate. The wood is fine with minor dings and scratches and crisp
checkering overall. Mechanically excellent. A highly attractive Winchester Deluxe Model 1873 rifle with much sought after straight grip stock! Estimate: 25,000 - 37,500
