Abercrombie & Fitch Retailer Marked Dangerous Game Scene Engraved Ludwig Borovnik Boxlock Double Rifle in Desirable .458 Winchester Magnum - Serial no. 40.3099, 458 Win magnum cal., 24
1/4 inch solid rib bbl., blue/coin finish, walnut stock. Manufactured in 1969. Blued Bohler Spezial G55 high chromium steel barrels with beaded blade front and fixed rear sights on the matted raised rib sections marked “ABERCROMBIE & FITCH CO.”, the underside of the right barrel is marked “LUDWIG BOROVNIK - FERLACH/MADE IN AUSTRIA”, automatic ejectors, and standard Austrian proofs. The scalloped coin finished, bolstered boxlock action displays engravings of a bear in a forested scene on the left, a running cape buffalo in a grassland scene on the underside, and a tiger in a jungle scene on the right all surrounded by floral scroll designs. The action features bushed firing pins, double triggers, and tang mounted manual safety switch. Pachmayr Decelerator recoil pad. Ludwig Borovnik is one of the most prolific gunmaker firm’s in Ferlach with a
history stretching back generations to Ludwig Borovnik I opening his shop in 1848. Since then the tradition has passed down the generations garnering a high end client list as it went, including President Josip Tito of Yugoslavia, King Juan Carlos de
Borbon of Spain, and U.S. President George H. W. Bush. Today the company is run by Ludwig Borovnik IV who continues the family tradition as one of Ferlach’s premier gun makers. Length of pull 14 3/8 inches. Weight 9 lbs 3 oz. CONDITION: Very fine, retaining 99% original blue of the barrels and 98% original coin finish on the action with areas of light spotting and general light handling evidence. The wood is also very fine with a few light marks, chip in the grip cap, and sharp checkering. Mechanically excellent. Estimate: 7,000 - 10,000

Blue Bohler Spezial steel barrels with ramped beaded blade front sight and fixed rear sight and German style claw mounts on the raised quarter rib at the breech end which is marked “MADE IN AUSTRIA”.
