Desirable 28 Gauge Parker Brothers VH Grade Double Barrel
 Collector’s Fact
According to The Parker Story by Gunther, only 772 VH grade shotguns were produced in 28 gauge with 26 inch vulcan steel barrels.
     Shotgun - Serial no. 152179, 28 gauge, 26 inch solid rib bbl., blue/casehardened finish, walnut stock. Manufactured in 1909 on the desirable “0” small frame, a very rare combination of frame size and gauge. Blued barrels with single steel bead sight on the
matte concave rib marked “PARKER BROS.
MAKERS. MERIDEN. CONN. VULCAN STEEL” with 2 1/2 inch chambers
with extractors, full/full chokes, and standard markings on the flats.
Casehardened box lock action, double triggers, and automatic tang
safety. Light zigzag border around the receiver on all sides. Checkered pistol grip stock with splinter
forend and dog’s head buttplate. Blank inscription shield on the underside of the stock. According to page 258 of “The Parker Story” by Guntier, Mullins, Parker, Price, and Cote, this as one of only 772 produced in this configuration with the 26 inch Vulcan steel barrels. Barrel and stock measurements (R/L): bore diameter at 9 inches from breech .554/.553; choke constriction .020/.019; minimum wall thickness .029/.023; drop at comb 1 5/8 inches; drop at heel 2 15/16 inches; length of pull 14 3/16 inches: weight 5lbs 13oz.
CONDITION: Very fine, retaining 95% refinished blue finish on the barrels, 40% plus original case colors on the receiver, and some minor handling evidence. The wood is also very fine with a few minor scratches and overall crisp checkering. The trigger guard shows 40% original blue with much of the loss on the tang section. Mechanically excellent. Estimate: 12,000 - 18,000
Manufactured post 1934 in the Remington
era and subsequently upgraded with engraving and gold inlay.
Blued, Vulcan steel barrels with dual white bead sights on
the matted, concave solid rib which is marked “PARKER BROS.
MAKERS. MERIDEN. CT. U.S.A. VULCAN .STEEL”, 2 3/4 inch chambers with ejectors, standard Parker
proofs, and chokes marked “SKEET/OUT” and “SKEET/IN”. The barrels also have one inch wedges
of floral scrollwork at the breeches. The casehardened boxlock receiver displays fine floral scroll engraving as well as a gold inlaid grouse on the
left, a woodcock on the underside with “PARKER” ahead of it, and another grouse on the right. Gold single selective trigger with tang mounted manual safety switch. The beautifully figured, multi-point checkered walnut beavertail forearm with original hardware, Deeley latch, and engraved fittings and pistol grip stock with grip cap, blank inscription shield, and NOSHOC recoil pad are professional replacements. Per the consignor, the gun was restored by well respected Parker restoration expert Larry Delgrego in 2013. According to page 599 of “Parker Gun Identification and Serialization” by Price and Fjestad, this gun was built with 26 inch barrels, pistol grip stock, single trigger, and ejectors. And per page 411 of “The Parker Story” by Gunther, Mullins Parker, Price, and Cote, only 217 20 gauge VH grade guns were built in a skeet configuration. Includes a leather cornered, canvas bound takedown case with Parker trade label. Barrel and stock measurements (R/L): bores measured 9 inches from the breech .626/.628 inches; choke constriction .005/.006 inches; minimum wall thickness .019/.018 inches; 1 1/2 inch drop at comb; 2 3/8 inch drop at heel; 13 3/4 inch length of pull; weight 6 lbs 6 oz. CONDITION: Very fine as professionally upgraded and later restored by Larry Delgrego, retaining 99% blue and casehardened finishes, limited handling evidence, and sharp checkering on the replacement stock and forearm. There is a tiny crack inside the forearm ahead of the latch. The case is also very fine. Mechanically excellent. Estimate: 6,500 - 9,500
