Barrel Set with Case and Factory Letters - Serial no. 31953, 12 gauge, 30 inch
solid rib bbl., blue/gold finish, walnut stock. Blued Winchester Proof steel barrels with single steel bead sight on the matted, concave solid rib which is marked “CUSTOM BUILT BY WINCHESTER”, single band of engraving at either
breech, 3 inch chambers with automatic ejectors, and chokes marked “FULL”/”FULL”. The blued boxlock action displays Winchester’s 21-3 engraving pattern consisting of light floral scrollwork with added gold game scenes. The left shows a pheasant in flight over a field scene, the right shows a duck in flight over a marsh scene, and the underside has a setter
on point in a field scene. The gun features a single selective trigger and a tang mounted automatic safety switch with
gold inlaid “SAFE”. Beautiful, highly figured, multi-point checkered beavertail forend with engraved fittings, rotary latch release, and contrasting ebony tip inlay and pistol grip stock with checkered flats, blued steel grip cap, gold initial oval marked “J/W/Y”, and style #2 leather covered recoil pad. Included is a second 28 inch set of matching numbered barrels with 2 3/4 inch chambers with automatic ejectors and chokes marked “IMP-CYL”/”IMP. MOD.”. Also included is a leather bound takedown case that houses a two
piece cleaning rod and the extra barrel set with “J.W.Y.” on the lid and multiple factory letters and copies of a factory change form and the original order sheet listing the gun as ordered by a Wallace Young and final inspection date of November 19, 1957. Barrel
measurements for the extra set (R/L): bore diameter nine inches from the breech .731/.731 inches; choke constriction .005/.015 inches; minimum wall thickness .038/.029 inches. Barrel and stock measurements for the primary set (R/L): bore diameter nine inches from the breech .731/.731 inches; choke constriction .035/.036 inches; minimum wall thickness .032/.028 inches; 1 9/16 inch drop at comb; 2 1/4 inch drop at heel; 14 inch length of pull; cast-on; weight 7 lbs 12 oz.
CONDITION: Very fine as refurbished/refinished, retaining 99% blue and gold finishes with a plum
hue to the barrels and minor handling evidence.
The wood is also very fine with scattered light dings and scratches, light wear to the recoil pad, and sharp checkering. The case is very good with mild wear and the extra barrel set is excellent. Mechanically excellent. Estimate: 14,000 - 22,500
