Documented Special Order Marlin Model 1892 Lever Action Rifle with Extra Length 32 Inch Barrel as Photographed in “Marlin Firearms” - Serial no. 428480, 32 cal., 32 inch round bbl., blue finish, walnut stock. Manufactured after 1906 with a special order extra length 32 inch round barrel. A 24 inch barrel was standard for this model. This exact rifle is pictured and identified in Brophy’s “Marlin Firearms” on page 187. The barrel is stamped with two-line address/patent dates marking ahead of the rear sight. The barrel is fitted with a blade front sight and an elevation adjustable semi-buckhorn rear sight. The upper tang is marked “Marlin/’92.” Factory sling swivels are mounted on the underside of the forend cap and buttstock. The top of the receiver and tang have been factory drilled and tapped for sight mounting. The straight grip stock is fitted with an S-shaped steel buttplate.

  CONDITION: Fine, retaining 65% original blue finish with a smooth brown patina on the balance. The wood is also fine with minor dings and scratches. Mechanically excellent.   Scarce Marlin Model 1888 Lever Action Rifle with Factory Letter - Serial no. 24243, 44 WCF cal., 24 inch octagon bbl., blue finish, walnut stock. Marlin only manufactured this model in 1888 and 1889 with only an estimated 4,814 made. The factory letter documents caliber and barrel length only with a shipping date od July 29, 1889. This particular rifle was manufactured in 1889 and features a German silver blade front sight and an elevation adjustable rear sight. The top barrel flat is marked with the two line address/patent date ahead of the rear sight and “44W.” at the breech. The serial number is on the bottom of the receiver. Mounted with a smooth walnut forearm and buttstock with crescent buttplate. CONDITION: Good, retaining traces of original blue in protected areas with the majority of surfaces covered in a smooth gray and brown patina. The forearm is fair with grooves worn in the forearm where the wood was grasped during its period of use as well as scattered dings and scratches. Buttstock is also good as refinished with dings and scratches and a chip on the left side of the wrist. Mechanically excellent. Provenance: The Milan J. Turk Collection. Estimate: 2,000 - 3,000
LOT 3103 Documented Special Order Extra Length Barrel Marlin Deluxe Model 1889 Lever Action Rifle with Factory Letter - Serial no. 64511, 38 WCF cal., 28 inch octagon bbl., blue finish, highly figured checkered walnut stock. The included factory letter lists this rifle as having a .38 caliber 28 inch octagon barrel and pistol grip stock when shipped on January 27, 1892. The top barrel flat is marked with the two-line address/patent dates ahead of the rear sight and “32-W.” at the breech. The top of the receiver is marked “MARLIN SAFETY”, and the serial number is marked on the bottom of the receiver. German silver front blade sight and an adjustable rear buckhorn sight as well as a tang mounted peep sight. Mounted with a deluxe checkered walnut forearm with steel endcap and pistol grip stock with a crescent buttplate. Matching numbers are found on the upper tang, stock inlet, and buttplate. CONDITION: Fine, retaining 70% original blue finish on the barrel and magazine with the balance thinning to brown as well as some oil staining. The receiver retains traces of the original blue finish with the balance a brown gray patina with pitting overall. The hammer, lever, and buttplate retain patterns of muted original case colors. Forend and stock are also fine with scattered dings and scratches as well as slightly softened checkering. Mechanically excellent. Provenance: The Milan J. Turk Collection. Estimate: 2,000 - 3,000 LOT 3104 Special Order Marlin Model 1897 Lever Action Rifle with Half Octagon Short Barrel - Serial no. 160352, 22 RF cal., 16 inch half octagon bbl., blue/casehardened finish, walnut stock. Manufactured in 1897, the very scarce half octagon short barrel “Bicycle Rifle” has the standard two-line address/patent marking in front of the rear sight dovetail. The model designation is on the upper tang, and the serial number is on the bottom of the receiver. Fitted with beaded blade front and peep tang sights with a filler block in the rear sight dovetail. Mounted with a smooth forearm and straight grip stock with a checkered hard rubber buttplate. Included with the rifle is an information request from Cody Firearms Museum stating the record is blank. This alludes to the rifle being one sold directly from the factory or sold internally to an employee. Brophy states in “Marlin Firearms: A History of the Guns and the Company That Made Them” that a mere 216 Model 1897 bicycle rifles were manufactured with only five of them having half-octagon barrels. CONDITION: Very good, retaining 30% original blue on the barrel and magazine with the balance fading to brown and pitting near the receiver. Receiver retains traces of case colors in protected areas with the balance a smooth gray and brown patina with some light pitting at the front and scattered dings. Refinished buttstock with numerous scattered dings and scratches and a hairline crack coming off the upper tang. Mechanically excellent. Provenance: The Milan J. Turk Collection. LOT 3105 Marlin Model 1891 Lever Action Rifle with Factory Letter - Serial no. 73343, 32 cal., 24 inch round bbl., blue finish, walnut stock. The included factory letter lists this rifle as being 32 caliber with a round barrel measuring 24 inches and shipment dates of September 1, 1892 as well as May 19 1894. It is fitted with German silver blade front and elevation adjustable rear sights, standard Marlin markings, and plain walnut forend and straight grain buttstock. CONDITION: Fine, retaining 75% plus original blue finish on the barrel and magazine tube with the balance thinned to a smooth brown and gray patina as well as a few freckles of oxidation at the muzzle end. The frame retains 30% blue with the balance a brown patina. Wood is fine as revarnished with scattered scratches and dings and one deep scratch on the left side of the buttstock.
