Description:

An estimated 20,000 of these revolvers were manufactured from 1861 to 1865 with more than half purchased under contract by the U.S. government. The revolver has a distinctive heart-shaped trigger guard which contains the cocking loop "trigger" and the actual trigger. The barrel, loading lever, cylinder, and frame were blued, while the trigger guard, hammer, and triggers were casehardened. The grips are oil-finished walnut. The top strap is marked "SAVAGE R.F.A. Co, MIDDLETOWN. CT./ H.S.NORTH PATENTED JUNE 17 1856 / JANUARY 18 1859. MAY 15 1860". The rear of the cylinder is numbered "8491", while the barrel, grips, and back strap are numbered "6906". There are small single letter marks on many of the components.

Rating Definition:

Good. The revolver displays a primarily gray patina with light pitting and traces of the original finishes. The cylinder has been cleaned and is different in color from the balance of revolver. The grips are fine with some minor marks and small scratches. Mechanically excellent with clear markings.
