Description:

The M1 SMG was introduced in April 1942 and was a simplified wartime version of the original model 1928 Thompson submachine gun. These wartime models were developed so that they were cheaper and easier to manufacture than the original Thompson SMG while still being very reliable in the field. The expedient features are: a simple "L" type stamped/fixed rear sight with protectors, a completely redesigned bolt assembly, (which included a one-piece forged bolt with a simple firing pin mechanism) side-mounted cocking handle with no cooling fins or compensator on the barrel. They were also fitted with a horizontal walnut forearm and fixed butt stock. The receiver has the standard markings of: "THOMPSON SUBMACHINE GUN/CALIBER 45 M1A1 (with the A1 XX out), /NO. 383126", and the right side is marked: "AUTO ORDNANCE CORPORATION/BRIDGEPORT CONNECTICUT U.S.A.". The left side of the receiver has the "G.H.D." inspector proof with a single "P" proof on top of the barrel and "U.S. PROPERTY", on the rear of the receiver. The lower trigger housing is marked "AUTO/SINGLE" and "FIRE/SAFE". The underside of the lower trigger group and rear edge of the receiver have both been etched with the Police markings of "WHPD". This SMG is complete with five 30-round magazines and a canvas sling.

Rating Definition:

Very fine as arsenal refurbished with 98% of the late parkerized finish overall with edge and wear and signs of light firing. The wood components, stock, pistil grip and forend have all been rearsenaled (sanded and restained) and are in very fine condition. NOTE: This item is restricted as a National Firearms Act (NFA), Fully Automatic Weapon that is currently registered with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco Firearms and Explosives (BATF&E) that has been classified as a "Curios or Relic" as defined in 27 CFR, 478.11. These weapons are still subject to the provisions of 18 U.S.C. Chapter 44 and 27 CFR part 478.
