Description:

Model 1903 rifle manufactured by Springfield Armory in 1918. The rifle is fitted with the extended 25-round magazine usually associated with the M1903 Air Service rifle. The rifle has a parkerized receiver, barrel, and upper barrel band, and blued lower barrel band, bolt, safety lock, cocking piece and floor plate. The rifle has a fine checkered buttplate, grooved trigger, rear sight with 2750 yard volley notch and concave windage and elevation knobs. The oil finished walnut stock has grasping grooves and two stock reinforcing bolts. The magazine has a parkerized finish and blue follower. The receiver has the standard Springfield markings and the barrel is roll-stamped: SA/Ordnance 'Shell &Flame/7-18" behind the front sight. The magazine cut-off and safety lock have block letter markings. The top of the bolt safety lug is stamped with the rifle serial number "947684" in small numbers. The left side of the stock wrist is stamped with the "Eagle Head/Y100" Ordnance final inspection mark utilized in mid 1918. A encircled, block, "P" proof mark is stamped on the underside of the stock behind the trigger guard. A rack number "RT/8" is stamped on the stock comb ahead of the buttplate and on the handguard behind the lower barrel band.

Rating Definition:

Very fine. The rifle retains at least 90% of the original blue and parkerized finish and shows only light handling wear. The extended magazine is original and in excellent condition but is not original to this rifle. The stock is in excellent overall condition with clear inspection and proof marks. The bore is dark but would probably clean to very good condition. This is a very fine example of a late WWI production Springfield M1903 rifle with hard-to-find 25-round extension magazine.
