Description:

The Werder Model 1869 variations are based upon the Peabody action. The front "trigger" opens the action for reloading. This New Model variation has a Mauser type rear sight and barrel with long knox form marked "OESTERR.WAFF.FB.GES." Several of the components including the stock, action and barrel are marked "7448" and many of the smaller components have the partial serial number "48". This example has a stud blade front and rear sight with folding leaf and ladder. It is fitted with a nearly full length straight wrist stock with three barrel bands. The front band has a bayonet lug on the right side. There are several proofs throughout.

Rating Definition:

Fine. The rifle retains 60% original blue finish with the balance a brown patina on the length of the barrel with some brighter sections on the action. The otherwise fine stock is pieced just behind the middle band ("duffle bag cut") with a variety of minor dings and scraps and a few dents. Mechanically excellent with crisp markings.
