Manufactured by Mauser in 1935, using a combination "S/42G" code on top of the receiver ring. Introduced during the early years of the Nazi Party's dominance of Germany, the code system was intended to obscure the scale and speed of German re-armament. Matching numbers are present on many components, including the bolt and "K" marked smooth pistol grip stock. Included with the rifle is a steel muzzle cover, brown leather sling, bayonet with sheath, and a translation of a German Border Police 98k manual.

Fine as professionally restored, with 80% of the mostly original blue finish (excluding bolt assembly), showing some light handling marks and spotting overall. The bolt assembly has been renumbered to match the receiver. The refinished wood is fine, with a few dings and some mild scratches. Some cracks and stains are present on the otherwise very good leather, and the bayonet shows mild wear. Mechanically excellent. Even with the restoration, this is a solid representative 98k!
