Manufactured relatively early during the pre-World War II period of German re-armament, this Mauser 98k bears the "S/42" code over the "1936" date on the receiver ring, along with a set of "eagle/63" and "droop eagle" inspection marks. The barrel is fitted with the standard blade and tangent sights, with "eagle/28" proofs, and matching numbers are present on multiple components, including the bolt and the stock. Fitted with a smooth pistol grip stock, with a cupped buttplate.
Very good, with 80% of the refinished blue finish, showing areas of gray and brown patina on the high points and edges, as well as some light handling and cycling marks. A number has been struck off the bolt catch and restamped to match the rifle, with the rest of the parts looking correct/proper. The revarnished stock is also very good, with scattered dents and scuffs. Mechanically excellent.
