few chips at the left rear, and some missing varnish, a slight crack coming off the lower tang, otherwise the wood is very fine with some dings and scratches concentrated at the toe. Mechanically excellent.

Documented Pre-Production Serial Number “2” Winchester Model 24 Double Barrel Shotgun - Serial no. 2, 12 gauge, 30 inch solid rib bbl., blue finish, walnut stock. Manufactured in 1938, the year before the Model 24 went into full production and two years before it was offered for retail sale. This Model 24 is identified by serial number in Ronald W. Stadt’s “Winchester Shotguns and Shotshells” on page 127: “Serial number 2 was an experimental gun with single selective trigger and automatic ejectors.” Blued steel barrels with single steel bead sight, no markings on the barrels
beside the “MOD” and “FULL” markings on the undersides, and chambers measured 2 5/8 inches with ejectors. The blued hammerless action is unadorned aside from the serial number “2” on the underside and features a single selective trigger and automatic tang safety. Smooth walnut beavertail forend and pistol grip stock with solid red Winchester marked recoil pad. Stock measurements: 1 7/16 inch drop at comb; 2 1/4 inch drop at heel; 13 1/4 inch length of pull;
weight 7 lbs 9 oz. CONDITION: Very fine, retaining 90% original blue finish, muted case colors on the trigger plate, scattered minor spotting, and some thinning blue in areas. There is a crack along the left side of the forend and at the back of the upper tang, otherwise the refinished wood is very good. Mechanically excellent. Estimate: 2,500 - 4,000

bead sights, 2 3/4 inch chambers with ejectors, and chokes marked “WS-1”/WS-2”. Blued receiver featuring a non-
automatic tang safety and single selective trigger. The receiver is marked “SKEET” on the underside. Winchester “WP” proofs
on the barrels and receiver. Nicely figured, fancy checkered walnut beavertail forend with rotary latch release and straight grip stock with checkered bare butt. Barrel and stock measurements (R/L): bores 9 inches

  Pre-World War II Winchester Model 1897 Slide Action Riot Shotgun - Serial no. E711795, 12 cal., 20 inch round bbl., blue finish, walnut stock. Manufactured in 1919 and subsequently factory refurbished. Single brass front sight bead. The action bar is roll-stamped “MODEL 1897/-WINCHESTER-/TRADE MARK REG. IN U.S.PAT.OFF.”” in three lines, and the barrel is marked “12 GA.” and “CYL” along with the Winchester address and patent information. Oval Winchester “W/P” proofmarks are stamped on the top of the barrel and the receiver. The serial number “E/711795” is roll-stamped across the bottom of the receiver. No U.S. Ordnance marks are present on the gun. Mounted with an 18-groove forend and later production replacement smooth pistol grip stock fitted with a checkered hard rubber Winchester buttplate. Length of pull is 13 3/4 inches. CONDITION: Very fine, retaining 97% plus bright high polish factory refinished blue finish, some slide retraction wear, light handling evidence, a few light marks in the wood, and well-defined forend groves.
