destined for Sydney, Australia through the dealer F. Lassetter & Co. Ltd. Most previously
cataloged examples ordered by this dealer with this marking are Model 1873 rifles; however, at
least four Model 1885 rifles are known to have been ordered with this engraving in the early 1890s. The receiver features a wonderful Australia wildlife themed relief engraving depicting kangaroos on the right side and brush-tail possum on the left side. The underside of the receiver is signed by the engraver:
“RC.” Flourishes of engraved scrollwork appear on the barrel at the muzzle and breech, rear sight base and buttplate. The top barrel flat has near full coverage engraved leaf pattern that does not obstruct the caliber marking at the breech and the two-line
Winchester address ahead of the rear sight.
CONDITION: Fine as elaborately custom embellished, retaining 99% plus of the reapplied blue finish, attractive appearance on the receiver and limited handling marks. The highly figured wood is very good showing some stress fractures along the grain with the most prominent crack at the upper tang. Mechanically excellent. A rare factory “Daisy” inscribed Model 1885 with fitting Australian themed relief engraving.
