Three notable U.S. marked revolver holsters
1) Rock Island Arsenal Model 1881 Holster for M1873 Colt and S&W Schofield - Fourth pattern RIA M1881 Holster with 6.5-inch belt loop. These late production M1881 holsters were manufactured with longer belt loops to allow the holster to be worn with a .45-70 cartridge belt. The black leather holster has two holes in the flap to allow it to be used with either the S&W Schofield or Colt M1873 Cavalry Revolver. The holster body is embossed with "U.S." in an oval. Most M1881 holsters were issued to cavalry units and were worn during extensive service on the frontier. Most of the remaining serviceable M1881 holsters were shortened for use with the Colt M1873 Artillery Revolvers during the Spanish American War. Original, unaltered, M1881 holsters are scarce. 2) Like 1), but with a shortened belt loop 3) Marked "Rock Island Arsenal/1904", has only one hole in the flap, a shorter overall length, and a lanyard swivel attached to the tip.
