Description:

Manufactured in 1864. The rifle has the early rounded profile brass buttplate, plain brass frame with no provision for a rear sight dove-tail, folding leaf rear sight mounted on the barrel, loading lever latch and sling swivel on the left side of the stock and sling loop screwed to the left side of the barrel. The barrel is fitted with a German silver front sight blade with early rounded profile. The top of the barrel is roll-stamped with the legend: "HENRY'S PAT.OCT.16.1860/MANUFACT'D BY THE NEWHAVEN ARMS CO. NEWHAVEN. CT." in two lines ahead of the rear sight. The rifle has a leather sling. Mounted with a smooth oil finished walnut stock with a brass buttplate with compartment (cleaning rod not included). Most of the Henry Rifles manufactured by the New Haven Arms Company during the Civil War were privately purchased by individual Federal soldiers; primarily in Illinois (such as the 7th Illinois Volunteer Infantry Regiment), Indiana and Kentucky. These rifles saw extensive service during the Atlanta Campaign and other battles in the western theater of operations. A nice example of a Civil War production Henry rifle.
