PRF - PROFESSIONALLY REFINISHED OR RESTORED

The receiver was originally manufactured in late 1903 as a Springfield Model 1903 rod-bayonet style rifle. It was probably converted into a standard 1903 (1905) service rifle chambered in 30-06 circa 1905/07. Currently it has been reassembled into a 1903 style rod-bayonet rifle using some original parts. It has the early style barrel, correctly set-back and chambered in 30-06, fitted with the first pattern front sight, which is pined through the upper center section of the base, with the two distinctive lightening holes through the upper portion of the base. The rear sight base is the early 1903 pattern with the milled out, underside that is retained by a single retaining pin through the upper front end of the base. The base is designed for the first pattern 1903 Krag style rear sight. Slide is graduated from "3-20" and it is adjustable for windage. The front of the barrel has been remarked with "SA/Shell and Flame proof/04". It has an original 1903 Rod-Bayonet, no-bolt stock with finger grooves on the sides and the correct cut out area for the rear sight base. The stock has been restamped with a boxed "JSA/1904" cartouche with a script "P" proof in the pistol grip area. It has a new manufactured, full length, no-clip handguard with the two spring clips on the underside to attach it to the barrel. The front of the stock is correctly drilled through the forend for the rod-bayonet and it is fitted with an original rod-bayonet stud and catch assembly as well as the original blued barrel bands. The stock is 41 1/4 inches long and has a smooth blued butt plate. It is fitted with a reproduction, blued rod-bayonet, that nicely matches the original model configuration. It has an early straight handled, unmarked blued bolt with a later pattern cocking piece and firing pin assembly.
