The Volcanic designs are an important step in the evolution of lever action designs and are among the most iconic mid-19th century firearms. This example has German silver blade front sight attached to the barrel and a dovetailed elevation adjustable rear sight on the receiver. The top barrel flat is marked "NEW HAVEN CONN. PATENT FEB. 14, 1854". "183" is marked on the left side of the lower tang, right side of the lever, back of buttplate and butt of stock.
