Description:

Manufactured c. 1859-1863. A small amount of Model 1859 carbines are known to have been U.S. Navy purchased in the 40000-44000 serial range, are not fitted with a sling bar on the left with no hole drilled in the receiver for one, and feature a rifle buttstock as seen on this example. "C.W.H." marked on left of breech, "A.W.M." marked ahead of buttplate tang. Crisp cartouches on left of stock wrist. Includes modern leather sling. Provenance: The George Moller Collection
