Manufactured c. 1882. With blued barrels with partially file cut matted flat rib signed “HOLLAND & HOLLAND. 98. NEW BOND STREET. LONDON” and with bead front sight and rear sight of one standing and two folding notched leaves graduated to 250 yards. Rounded action with carved percussion fences, blued toplever, upper tang fitted with a blued folding aperture sight (spring absent), rebounding back action locks each signed “HOLLAND & HOLLAND”, and blued trigger guard. With classic English border and scroll engraving throughout. Figured 14 5/8" walnut semi-pistol grip stock including orange rubber recoil pad, dark horn grip cap, and checkered grip and forearm, the latter with push button release marked “W. ANSON/16657/PATENT” (William Anson’s famous forearm release, patent no. 3791 of December 14, 1872, use no. 16657). London black powder proof marks. In refitted canvas and leather case relined in dark blue baize, the lid with black leather Holland & Holland trade label with gilt lettering, the exterior of the lid initialled “H.S.O.”, with large glass oiler.
