The makers have kindly confirmed that this gun was ordered on February 9, 1864, and completed on June 17, 1864, as the No. 2 gun of a pair of double breechloading shotguns for a M.A. Bass Esq. With browned Damascus barrels signed “BOSS & Co. 73 ST. JAMES’S STREET. LONDON” on the rib. Scroll engraved action and locks, the latter each signed “BOSS & CO.” Well-figured 13 5/8" walnut stock with checkered grip and forearm. Numbered “2” of a pair. London black powder proof marks.
