Only an estimated 7,000 were manufactured in 1848-1850. They have distinctive square back trigger guards and oval cylinder stops and are an important variation for collector's of Colt's massive .44 caliber percussion revolvers that descended from the famous Colt Walker. They saw use in the turbulent years of the antebellum era as well as the bloody battles of the Civil War.
