Historic Grouping of Mid-1800s U.S. Martial Musket Related Springfield Addressed Letters, a Handwritten Eli Whitney Letter, and Amoskeag Rifle-Musket Inspection Records

Lot of original handwritten letters and documents including handwritten letters related to regulations for the variations allowed in parts of the "New Model Musket" dated between September 1839-1840, a January 29, 1840 dated Springfield Armory addressed handwritten letter related to the alteration of the Model 1835 prototype musket into what became the Model 1840 musket, a November 23, 1841 dated handwritten letter addressed to Springfield Armory from the Ordnance office directing them to make pattern guns of Cadet muskets, an Eli Whitney handwritten letter related to his acceptance of the 2nd Connecticut contract for rifled-muskets dated July 21, 1862 and addressed to General W. A. Aiken, a September 30, 1862 dated request addressed to Major General John Adams Dix asking if a sister can visit her sick brother, Jerome Carle of the 64th N.Y. regiment Co. K, in the hospital, invoices of Ordnance stores from September of 1863, and an Amoskeag machine shop record of arms components inspected dated June 11, 1864. Fair to good condition with age related wear.
