Description:

Lewis Lobdell Hepburn (1832-1914) was trained as a blacksmith and gunsmith in upstate New York and was a maker of custom muzzle loading firearms in the 1850s to 1870s. He came to work for Remington in the 1870s as their foreman in the mechanical department and was a competitor in the historic first Creedmoor matches and designed the famous Remington No. 3 Hepburn rifles. He later worked for Marlin and patented many designs, including for lever action rifles. Provenance: The Milan J. Turk Collection
