The maker’s records confirm that this shotgun was completed in 1886 with 30 inch barrels and sold to a J.E.H. Balfour. With browned damascus barrels with concave rib signed “CHARLES LANCASTER. 151. NEW BOND STREET, LONDON. PATENT BREECH LOADING HAMMERLESS GUN” and numbered “2” in silver. Bright action signed “CHARLES LANCASTER / LONDON” on each side and with blued toplever, automatic safety with gold inlaid “SAFE”, blued cover plate engraved “PATENT BLOCK SAFETY” and blued trigger guard. Border and scroll engraved throughout. Figured 14 1/4 inch straight hand stock with grooved dark horn heel plate, and checkered grip and forearm. London “NOT FOR BALL” black powder proof marks and Birmingham nitro reproof marks. 2 1/2" chambers with ejectors and chokes measured cylinder/modified.
