The maker’s records confirm that this shotgun was completed in 1899 and sold to a J.C. Holmes Esq. Known as “Wristbreakers”, this action incorporates Frederick Beesley’s 1884 patents (nos. 425 and 14488), the rights to which had been purchased by H.A.A. Thorn, Lancaster’s then owner. With browned fine damascus barrels with concave rib signed “CHARLES LANCASTER. 151. NEW BOND ST. LONDON. PATENT EJECTOR.” Bright action signed “CHARLES LANCASTER/PATENT” on each side and with blued toplever, automatic safety with silver inlaid “SAFE”, blued cover plate and blued trigger guard. Bright backaction sidelocks each signed “CHARLES LANCASTER/PATENT”. Border and scroll engraved throughout. Well figured 14 1/4" straight hand stock with checkered dark horn heel plate, and checkered grip and forearm. London nitro proof marks. Provenance: The Malcolm King Collection
