Description:

Scarce US Marked Winchester 1885 "Short Forend" type Winder Musket in 22 Short. This appears to be a rare short forend winder Musket as discussed on page 125 of Vol II book, Winchester Single Shot Rifles. Manufactured circa 1915-1922 these were a very unusual variation where the forend was shortened to approximately 15 1/2 inches making them a very handy training or field rifle, (this example slightly different). The tip of the forend is very professionally done and appears to be factory original. The barrel blue under the forend shows an old oil/grease line indication this forend has been in this configuration and on this rifle for quite some time. It has standard Winchester factory receiver and barrel markings with a clear "US/Ordnance Bomb" proof on the top front edge of the upper tang directly behind the hammer slot. Fitted with an original Lyman model 41 Winder target sight and blade front sight. It has factory mounted sling swivels on the barrel band and buttstock. Comes with a photocopy of the noted reference page above and book cover.
