Manufactured 1862. Back strap inscribed "LEIUT A.O.S.CARPENTER Co.C 31st N.J.V." An Abram O.S. Carpenter is listed as being a first Lieutenant in Company C of the 31st New Jersey Infantry which was present at the Battle of Chancellorsville.
